This Shaved Steak Sandwich is built on a brioche bun piled high with charred peppers and onions, shaved beef steak and melted provolone cheese. It’s so simple but still hits all the right spots.

    Shaved Steak Sandwich Ingredients

    shaved beef steak

You really don’t need much to make these ingredients sing.

Shaved beef steak: Any shaved beef steak will do, but I grab the one from Trader Joe’s

Provolone cheese: Or the cheese of your choosing

Brioche buns: We’ll toast these slightly before melted the cheese. It’s so dang good

Bell pepper and onions: Charred to perfection

    Spices: Salt, pepper, and paprika

    Worcestershire sauce: For flavor

How to make Shaved Steak Sandwiches

Here’s what you need to do to get these tasty sandwiches together:

    Step 1: Prep your ingredients

The first thing I do is prep my ingredients by first adding the seasoning to the meat and letting it sit for a bit. (You can do a few hours for the best flavor, but even just adding the seasoning and letting it come to room temperature while you prep the other items will do.)

Then, slice the peppers and onions and set aside. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and add the brioche buns (opened). Turn the broiler on high to get that ready.

Step 2: Cook the peppers and onions.

Add a touch of oil to a cast iron skillet and turn it on to medium-high heat. Once there, add the peppers and onions with a pinch of salt and cook until softened and charred (I just watch this, but it can take anywhere from 5-8 minutes). Once ready, remove to a plate.

Step 3: Cook the shaved steak.

Add a touch more oil to the same skillet you cooked the peppers and onions in. Add the beef, breaking it up a bit with your spatula. Add a tablespoon or two of worcestershire and cook until the meat is done. This goes fast since the beef is so thin, so you’ll start toasting the buns when it’s almost ready.

    Step 4: Toast the buns.

Now add the buns to the oven to let them toast a bit. This will only take a few minutes, so make sure you’re watching! Then remove and add the provolone to the buns. Return to oven to melt the cheese, then remove.

    Step 5: Build your sandwiches.

Now pile the steak on to the sandwich, followed by the peppers and onions.

    Shaved Steak Sandwiches

This Shaved Steak Sandwich is made up of a brioche bun piled high with charred peppers and onions, shaved beef steak and melted provolone cheese.
    Prep Time6 minutes mins
    Cook Time15 minutes mins
    Course: Main Course
Keyword: shaved beef steak, steak sandwich
    Servings: 4 sandwiches

    Ingredients

    • 1 lb shaved beef steak
    • ½ onion sliced
    • ½ green bell pepper sliced
    • ½ red bell pepper sliced
    • 4 brioche buns
    • 5-6 slices provolone cheese
    • 3 tbs worcestershire sauce divided
    • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
    • 1 teaspoon paprika
    • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

    Instructions

    • Add the salt, pepper, paprika and 1 tablespoon of worcestershire sauce to the meat and mix to combine. Let marinade while coming to room temperature or up to 4 hours in the fridge. (If marinating in the fridge, take out 20 minutes before cooking to let come to room temp.)
    • Turn the broiler on high and line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and the brioche buns, opened. Set aside.
    • Add a touch of oil to a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add the peppers and onions and a pinch of salt, cooking for 5-8 minutes or until softened and charred. Remove to a plate and set aside.
    • Add a bit more oil and the meat to the same skillet, breaking up the meat with your spatula. Add 2 more tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce and cook until done, which should only take about 4-5 minutes with how thin shaved beef is.
    • When the beef is almost done, add the brioche buns to the oven and let toast a few minutes. Make sure to watch these as they can burn fast! After a few minutes, remove, add the provolone and return to the oven to melt (also will only take a few minutes).
    • When done, pile on the shaved steak and then the peppers and onions.
