One Bowl Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

This one bowl chocolate chip banana bread is moist, slightly sweet (but not too sweet!) and filled with melty chocolate chips. Just drizzle a little honey and butter on a warm slice and you’ll be in absolute heaven — believe me!

And the best part is you don’t need a standing mixer or tons of bowls to get the job done, we’re using just ONE bowl to mix everything up in — nothing like reducing clean up time.

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need to make this delicious banana bread.

*Note that I’m not using any added sugar (as in white or brown sugar). All of the sweetness for this bread is coming from the overripe bananas, honey and chocolate chips. I found it to be perfectly sweet enough, but if you’ve got a major sweet tooth you may want to add ¼ cup sugar.

Overripe Bananas: Make sure your bananas are overripe, or really ripe — aka they’ve got a gooood amount of browning on them. The darker the better!

Chocolate chips: I used semi sweet for this recipe, but dark chocolate chips would also be delicious.

Olive oil: To help moisten the bread.

Honey: For a little sweetness.

Baking soda: To rise.

Eggs: To add richness.

Vanilla: For flavor.

Cinnamon: Brings a nice warmth to the bread.

Flour: I use King Arthur All-Purpose Flour.

Salt: To make everything pop.

How to Make Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

It’s so easy, you’ll be making this delicious bread all the time!

Step 1: Prep everything.

No chopping, but you will make to make sure your oven is preheated to 350 degrees F and that your bread pan is ready to go. I lined mine with parchment paper (so that it’s easy to lift out also). But you can also just spray it with cooking spray or whatever method you typically use in bakes.

Step 2: Mash the bananas and mix the wet ingredients.

Add the bananas to a mixing bowl and mash them up. Now add the eggs, vanilla, honey and olive oil. Stir everything up until combined.

Step 3: Add the dry ingredients.

Now add the flour, salt, cinnamon and baking soda. Use a spatula to stir everything until just combined. Then, add the chocolate chips (leave a few out to sprinkle on top) and fold the chocolate chips into the batter.

Step 4: Add the batter to a bread pan and bake!

Now pour the batter into the prepared bread pan, sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips on top and bake for 50–55 minutes, or until a toothpick can be inserted and removed cleanly. Remove and let sit at least 10 minutes before slicing. Spread some butter and drizzle honey on a warm slice and enjoy!

Equipment

  • 1 bread pan

Ingredients

  • 4 overripe bananas
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1.5 cups King Arthur AP flour
  • 1.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 6 oz semi sweet chocolate chips or dark chocolate (or a mixture!)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and line a bread pan with parchment paper. (I make sure the ends come out of the bread pan for easy lifting once it's baked.)
  • Add the bananas to a bowl and mash them with a masher (or a fork) until smooth (a little bit of chunks are fine!). Add the eggs, vanilla, olive oil and honey and stir until combined.
  • Add the flour, salt, cinnamon and baking soda and mix with a spatula until just combined (making sure to scrap the sides and bottom of the bowl to get all the dry ingredients in). Add the chocolate chips (leaving a few behind to sprinkle on top) and fold into the batter.
  • Pour the batter into the bread pan, sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips on top and bake for 50–55 minutes, or until a toothpick can be inserted and removed cleanly. Let sit ~10 minutes before slicing.
